Telluride Film Festival
A great Festival

The films are wonderful, but they’re only one piece of the SHOW. There are also the people. For starters, there are three major film artists who will attend to accept our Tribute. In addition, every Telluride program is presented by special guests — usually the director or key players. With older films, it may be a historian who recognizes the significance of overlooked silver nitrate.

This incomparably mixed company of directors, actors, and scholars is an essential part of the Festival: interacting all weekend with attendees, discussing, defending and delighting in the movies that are playing. From scheduled "conversations" to simply chatting away on the streets and in line, these show people are as inspiring as the surrounding mountain landscape. Access to discussions with great filmmaking minds — what could be better?

Then there’s the wild card. Each year, we recruit a different film enthusiast to act as Guest Director. We’ve invited both filmmakers and savvy film lovers in the arts to indulge their passions and enact their wish lists. In short, to help create their dream festival. Guest Directors such as Salman Rushdie, Buck Henry, B. Ruby Rich, Bertrand Tavernier, Laurie Anderson, Stephen Sondheim, Peter Sellars, Edith Kramer, Slavoj Žižek, Alexander Payne, Michael Ondaatje, Caetano Veloso, and Geoff Dyer have all left their mark. The Guest Director, the three tributees, the Silver Medallion recipients, fantastic re-discoveries and an amazing group of guests energize each and every Telluride Film Festival. Gathered here are distinguished intellects making for lively discussion…all part of The Show.

San Francisco Black Film Festival

The San Francisco Black Film Festival was founded with the artistic vision to provide a platform for Black filmmakers, screenwriters, and actors to present their art. As a competitive film festival, SFBFF identifies filmmakers, screenwriters, and actors that are emerging as talents and established artists who are contributing to the cinematic legacy of African Americans. SFBFF conscientiously expands the notions of “Black film-making” to a global perspective. Hence, film submissions are accepted worldwide from filmmakers and screenwriters who are of African descent or feature actors representing the African Diaspora. SFBFF is managed by a dedicated advisory board of 10 artists, business people, film industry and other professionals

SFBFF has presented 14 annual festivals featuring over 1100 films including features, documentaries, and shorts. Audiences, film submissions, community and business support have steadily grown over the years. In 2002, the Urban Kidz Festival was added to provide young people between the ages of 5-12 the opportunity to view films created by African Americans geared toward young people and their families, and we are looking forward to presenting it again this year!

Brainwash Drive-in Bike-in Walk-in Mov

The movies shown at the Brainwash Movie Festival are a great mix of original humor, experimental art movies, innovative animation, and short live-action stories with high production values. The moviemakers are unique and skillful storytellers, and the movies themselves pack a real punch into anywhere from 5 to 18 minutes. This year, we also featured 2 great features: John Law & Flecher Fleudujon’s “Head Trip” opening night Sat., Sept. 15th and closed Sunday night, Sept. 23rd with an all-Jesus show featuring “Trailer Park Jesus”. Both two great, rare features! Not to mention our usual abundance of innovative, unique and vital shorts!

What’s a Drive-in Bike-in Walk-in Movie Festival? It’s set up like a traditional drive-in with FM sound as well as two big amps. Arrive however you choose: drive, bike, or walk in, perhaps with your favorite chair or blanket.

Brainwash Movies has been showing great underground mostly short movies since 1995, and we have accumulated the rights to over 500 titles to produce an ongoing broadcast series. We’ve been written up in Variety, the New York Times, the Chronicle Pink Section, East Bay Express, Bay Guardian, SF Weekly, and in AAA’s Via magazine, among many others. We’ve toured the US Southwest and played at CBGB’s in New York.

We are also developing a broadcast pilot that includes footage filmed live at the festival. Stay tuned for a regular show of our short movies, held together with commentary, banter, and an as-yet confidential plot that may once and for all resolve the question: “Who is Shelby Toland?”. Or maybe not!

Bay Area International Children's Film Festival
BAICFF’s mission is to present engaging, culturally diverse cinema and film education

In January 2009, The Renaissance School and Screen 360: Films for Children of the World produced the first Bay Area International Children’s Film Festival in the San Francisco East Bay. The festival began as a creative community event to support educational programs that foster global understanding and cultural exchange. In particular, the festival contributed to The Renaissance School’s biannual international travel program, which took 40+ elementary level students to the Yucatan for 10 days in the fall of 2009. BAICFF has since produced five annual film festivals, presented over 185 family-friendly films of high artistic value from around the world, and held workshops for over 200 children designed to introduce kids to the world of animation and live-action filmmaking.

San Francisco Green Film Festival
GREEN IDEAS IN ACTION

The San Francisco Green Film Festival (SFGFF) is the West Coast’s leading destination for groundbreaking and compelling films on the urgent environmental issues of our time. As global temperatures skyrocket and media coverage of climate change vanishes, our mission is to educate and connect communities through forward-thinking programs of environmental films and discussions.

Launched in 2011, SFGFF presents an annual film festival each Spring as well as year-round community screenings and events in the San Francisco Bay Area. Themes at the 2013 Festival ranged from climate change to food and agriculture, energy, water, green chemistry, housing, and art in the environment. The Festival’s Closing Night celebrations, June 5, 2013, took place on United Nations’ World Environment Day.

SFGFF brings critical and contemporary environmental issues to local audiences and, in the process, highlights the vital work of our many partners, including local businesses, schools, and non-profit organizations. Since 2011, we’ve partnered with over 50 community organizations, produced over 90 programs with 225 films, and inspired over 8,000 attendees.
